Branches Of Theology

  • Biblical Theology- Biblical Theology is divided into two main categories: Old Testament (OT) Theology and New Testament (NT) Theology. This theological form gives particular emphasis to the teachings of different writers and portions of Scripture.
  • Historical Theology- Study of how Christians have conceptualized major theological issues throughout history.
  • Systematic (Dogmatic) Theology- A systematic study of God’s lessons or subjects as they are provided in the Bible. It is the gathering and understanding of all the pertinent Bible verses and their lessons on numerous subjects. (Grudem)
  • Philosophical (Practical) Theology- Employing technologies and methodologies of philosophical reasoning and learning about God through observing the universe, to examine religious problems essentially without referencing the Bible. (Grudem)

What does the entire Bible tell us? This is a question that is addressed in the study. It is the systematic examination of all the principles outlined in the Bible. Systematic Theology encompasses;

  • The study of the Word-Bibliology
  • The study of the Holy Spirit-Pneumatology
  • The study of Angels-Angelology
  • The study of Satan-Satanology
  • The study of Christ-Christology
  • The study of the church-Ecclesiology
  • The study of last things-Eschatology
  • The study of salvation-Soteriology
