How I Came to Faith in Christ

John Sele Philip praying

Growing up, I was curious about God but didn’t know much about Him. I went to church occasionally with my family (Especially, with my grandmother) but it didn’t seem to stick. During my teenage years, I experienced a lot of hardships and struggles that made me question the meaning and purpose of my life. Those hardships involve my father’s inability to afford my school fees, malnutrition, and the like. I began to wonder if God could offer me the answers I was looking for.

One day (In 2014), while attending a Good Friday Service, I heard my pastor talk about the love and grace of Jesus Christ which leads him to die on the cross. Something in his words resonated with me, and I found myself wanting to learn more. I Was baptized in December 2014 after 6 months of baptism/discipleship class in my home Church, Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Jos. I received my first-ever gift of a Bible on the same day from my grandmother. I began to read the Bible and go to church more regularly, I join the Church Choir and youth leadership as well as the evangelism department. As I grew in my understanding of what it meant to follow Christ, I couldn’t deny the transformation that was taking place in my life. I felt a sense of joy and peace that I had never experienced before and I knew that it was from God.

Now, in my ongoing relationship with Christ, I continue to deepen my faith through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers which has led me to pursue my tertiary education with a bachelor’s Degree major in Theology and minor in Development Studies at Africa International University, Kenya. I still face challenges and struggles, but I know that I don’t have to face them alone. I find comfort and strength in the presence of God and know that He is guiding me on my journey. My relationship with Christ is the foundation of my life and gives me purpose and hope for the future.
