Theology is the research or study of God. The terms “theology” are derived from two Greek words, “theos” and “logia,” which together indicate “God” and “learning,” respectively. The discipline aims to present a cogent explanation of Christian teachings that is principally grounded in the Scriptures, contextualized within modern society, expressed in everyday language, and connected to practical difficulties. (Erickson) A theology will not be applicable if it is not contextualized. Theology must address the different difficulties of life within a certain context or it will be of no use. To put it another way, for theology to be live and relevant, it must be developed utilizing the analogies and language of the setting. ?
Theology is the study of God’s interactions with people and the natural world from a human perspective in order to better comprehend God and learn about his character, as well as his goals and plans for his creation. Thus, theology is more than simply “words” or “texts,” it is life! A person’s life is meant to be given vitality and transformed by theology. (Nkansah, Obrempong). ?
